What's the race distance?

5K (or 3.1 miles)

How is the event timed?

The event is timed using a timing chip attached to the racing bib.

Where can I get photos of my race?

We'll be choosing a race photo service soon.

Is the Mud Blast safe?

There are certainly risks involved in a mud run, but we take every precaution possible to get you to the finish line safely. There will be first responders on site in case of an emergency. You enter the Mud Blast at your own risk. Signed and dated copies of the "Rules and Regulations" and "Waiver & Release of Liability" must be completed before anyone is allowed to participate or watch the event.

Are there age restrictions?

The Mini Mud Blast is recommended for children 5-6, but you know your children best. Families with older children are invited to start with the Family Wave, a group with multi-age participants progressing at their own pace.

Registration

Is there on-site registration?

We expect this event to sell out. However, if there are spaces, we will have registration on the day of the event and at the early packet pick-up locations. Check website and Facebook page for updates

Can I get a refund? Can I transfer my Registration?

Sorry, no refunds under any circumstances; Registrations are non-transferable.

Can we compete in teams?

Yes! Teams of ten or more individuals are welcomed to register. To register your team, please contact Rachel (mailto:rzunino@mudblast.org) or Chris (cpurkis@mudblast.org) for the team discount.(

The largest three teams will get the first three wave starts.

Wave assignments

Family Wave will be the last wave.

Are there age restrictions?

Participants under 18 at the date of registration must have a parent or guardian sign "Rule and Regulations" and "Waiver & Release of Liability" forms.

Parent/guardian must accompany all minors to the Mud Blast.

Children 5-12 may participate in the Mini Mud Blast fun run. Parents must be present at the Mini Mud Blast course and fun run event.

Race Packets

When and where can I pick up my race packet?

Packets for the San Joaquin River Race can be picked up here:

Modesto Subaru
Thursday, October 18, 10 am - 7 pm in the showroom

Modesto Sports Authority
Friday, October 18 from 11 am - 7 pm

You may also pick up your packet beginning at 7 am on race day.

What do I need at packet pick-up?

Your ID and printed confirmation email from Acitve.com (in case there are any glitches).

Can I pick up my friend's packet?

Yes, but you will need the following items:

  • A copy of your friend's photo ID
  • A signed letter from your friend stating that you are allowed to pick up their packet.
Will you ship me my race packet?

Race Packets must be picked up at the specified location and dates or onsite at check-in. We will not ship packets to participants

Food, clothing, etc.

What do I need to bring?

  • Your race bib and any wrist bands and or tickets included in your registration packet
  • Your photo ID and money
  • Change of clothes
  • Towel
  • Sun screen/bug repellant
  • Garbage bag for your muddy running clothes and shoes
  • Folding chair or blankets to sit on
  • Guts
  • Water to stay hydrated
Will there be food and beverages available?

Yes. There will be lunch, beer, soft drinks, and water available for purchase. If you are a registered participant, lunch is included with registration. Water tents will be set-up at the staging area.

Water aid stations will be provided by Aquas Water Co.

What should I wear?

You'll be covered with mud when you finish. So we recommend you wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. We highly recommend good running shoes too. Clothing is required – from technical tees and padded shorts, to fairy wings and superman tights. It's your choice. Feel free to express yourself and embrace the mud! Just please cover all your private parts.

Feel free to take a dunk in the river after the race!

Can I wear a costume?

YES! Prizes will be awarded for the best costume.

Will there be a bag check (aka sweat check)?

The Mud Blast will have a sweat check area run by volunteers. Toss your extra layers into a sweat check bag before you start the race. Using a felt tipped pen write your last name and race number on the bag provided at the sweat check site, located near the Registration Tent. You must show your race number to pick up your items. Although we will try to keep this area secure, we want to remind you not to place any valuable items (keys, wallets, cell phones, pagers, watches) in your bag. The Mud Blast, River Partners, its staff, volunteers, and consultants are not liable or responsible for lost items.

Will I get a race t-shirt?

Yes, early and regular registrations are guaranteed a Mud Blast t-shirt. Late registrations will not be guaranteed a t-shirt, and those t-shirts will be subject to availability.

Prizes

What prizes will be awarded?

Yes, prizes will be awarded for:

  • Fastest overall, male/female
  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd place age division, male/female
  • Fastest team
  • Largest team
  • Best team costume
  • Runner-up costumes

The course and all obstacles must be completed to qualify for prizes.

Fastest team is determined by race times of fastest three team members. For example, 5-person team is judged on results of the fastest three members.

Teams are 3 or more participants. All team members must cross the finish line for the team to qualify for prizes.

Race Day

Is there on-site parking?

Yes, however, see above. Arrive early, between 7:00 am and 8:30 am. Be sure to allow enough time to park and walk to the staging area.

What is the schedule?
  • 6:30 am: Parking lot opens
  • 7:00 am: Late Packet Pick-up and On-site Registration begins. (Registration will close promptly at 10 am)
  • 8:45 am. Final race instructions; mandatory meeting (we will review these instructions before the family wave begins)
  • 9:00 am: Gun time. Racers released in groups of 50-100, every 7 minutes. It's the participants' responsibility to be at the designated start location at least 15 minutes before their wave start time.
  • 11:30 am: Mini Mud Blast starts
  • 12:00 pm: Awards and celebration start, including Kids’ Prize Drawing
What if it rains?

Perfect! More mud.

Are spectators welcome?

Yes! Spectators are welcomed to hang-out on the beach or watch the race. Along with a great vantage point of race starts and finishes, there will be several obstacle viewing stations at key points in the race.

Big No-Nos

Can I bring my dog?

We are sorry, no. No dogs are allowed on the property.

Can I bring baby stroller or baby jogger?

Only in the spectator areas. No baby strollers or baby joggers are allowed on the race course.

What are the really big no-nos?

ABSOLUTELY NO GLASS ALLOWED!
